“Hugh Wilson’s major legacies to New Zealand botanical science are his superb publications ‘Stewart Island Plants’, ‘Wild Plants of Mount Cook National Park’ and ‘Small-leaved Shrubs of New Zealand.’ His skills in observation and interpretation of botanical phenomena are coupled with an infectious enthusiasm for and outstanding personal commitment to the cause of conservation.”

Hugh Wilson was presented with the Allan Mere by Jessica Beever during the Flora of New Zealand Vol. 5 book launch at the Canterbury Museum.
