“Mr Druce has represented Botany Division in Wellington from 1947 until 1982, with the exception of four years when he was attached to Soil Bureau. A dedicated field worker with unrivalled knowledge of the North Island and Nelson ranges, he has shared his knowledge freely with professional and amateur botanists.”

The 1982–1984 DSIR Botany Division Triennial report (p. 75) records that the Allan Mere was awarded to Tony Druce in 1982, at his retirement function in Oct that year. This year differs from that stated in the awards book (1987).
