The 1982–1984 DSIR Botany Division Triennial report (pp.10, 75) records that the Allan Mere was first awarded to Henry Connor in 1982, on the eve of his retirement (Aug) and the same year that the pounamu mere was gifted by Lucy Moore (April). This year differs from that stated in the awards book (1986).
